Cookies are a small piece of data stored locally by your IE browser that saves information and helps identify you to web sites upon subsequent visits. Cookies are like small identification cards passed out by web sites. Like conventional ID cards, cookies are specific to the user, they store information to help identify you, and they expire at a certain date and then must be reissued. It is important for you to realize that you are issued different and separate cookies by different web sites.

ToolButton uses cookies mainly to assist in the auto-login function, if you have not turned this off.

Secondly, to Enable Cookies, take these steps according to which IE version you are using:

Windows IE 6.x Browser

Select Tools

Select Internet Options

Select the Privacy tab

Select Advanced

Deselect override automatic cookie handling button

Click on the OK button at the bottom of the screen

Click OK to exit

Windows IE 5.x Browser

Go to Tools on the menu bar

Pick Internet Options

Click the Security tab

Select the Custom Level tab

Under "Allow Cookies that are stored on your computer" click "Enable"

Under "Allow per-session cookies (not stored)" click "Enable"

Select OK, Yes you want to save the settings

The ToolButton Deskbar is running already. You can only have one instance running at a time.

I get this message each time I restart my PC since I applied the update 3,5,7,0 last week. What can I do to elimiate this notice. Also the sign in option is displayed on the toolbutton at startup. It appears to work when I enter a search but the browser options are not displayed like they are when I "sign in".

Abstract:
The problem is that TBDeskbar.exe (the Deskbar executable) is set up in your computer's registry to run twice on every reboot.

To resolve:

1. Choose Start > Run and enter "MSConfig" in the OPEN dialog box, and click OK.

2. Choose the STARTUP tab.

3. Uncheck any row entry that has "TBDeskbar" in the Startup Item column and does NOT have "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" in the Location column. Hint: Look carefully at the beginning 4 characters. Several entries appear similiar.

4. Click OK and choose RESTART YOUR COMPUTER.

5. On the reboot, you will have a message appearing on your screen from the MSConfig program. Check the box indicating you do not want MSConfig to appear on each reboot.
...

How to create a User Account?

Abstract:
A user account is necessary to use the ToolButton Deskbar. This is because of the "roaming" feature of the deskbar where you can sign in from any computer that has ToolButton installed and see your personal setup. This is similiar to Yahoo Messenger or MS Messenger. These programs, as well as ToolButton, retain your personal configuration on a master server allowing you to access your account from more than one computer.

You do not need to create a second user account to use ToolButton on a different computer.

To create an account for ToolButton, you can run the Configuration Wizard. Either choose Start > Programs >ToolButton or choose from the ToolButton pull-down menu. The Configuration Wizard will create an account for you and ask enough questions to create a basic setup.

Alternatively, another (less desirable) method is to go directly to the registration page on the ToolButton web site. This allows you to create an account but does not create the basic setup the Configuration Wizard does.
...

What browsers does ToolButton support?

Abstract:
At this time, ToolButton only supports Internet Explorer 5.0+. It installed great on my laptop, but when I tried to install it on my server, I am unable to log in when "activating all features". I get "The Name Already Exists" error. I have been unable to find a log in screen for existing users.

Abstract:
It is not necessary to create a second user when you install ToolButton on a second computer. This is one of the best features of ToolButton - one user account allows you to sign into ToolButton from anywhere on the Internet, from any computer that has ToolButton installed.

This concept is like Microsoft Messenger or Yahoo Messenger. With each of these services, you create a single account and you can then sign in to use the program from home, or office or your friend's computer - it is not necessary to create a new user account from each of these locations. ToolButton is the same.

Here are the steps to follow to use ToolButton on two different computers:

1. Download ToolButton and install on the first computer, creating a new user account and following the instructions in the confirmation email.

2. Sign into the ToolButton deskbar program on your first computer using your new account name and password just to make sure everything is working OK.

3. Download ToolButton on the second computer, but do NOT create an additional user account. Instead, indicate to the Configuration Wizard that you already have a user account. If you enter your user account and password into the Configuration Wizard sign-in screen, it will automatically connect to the ToolButton servers and anything you add with the Configuration Wizard is retained for you.

Alternatively, immediately exit out of the Configuration Wizard at the end of the installation process and sign into your ToolButton Deskbar by clicking on the ToolButton pull-down menu and choosing Sign In.

NOTE: If you sign into ToolButton on one computer when you are still signed in on another, you will see a pop-up message on the other computer indicating you have been automatically signed out of ToolButton.
...

How do I remove or modify a user?

Abstract:
A user to ToolButton is like a user is to Yahoo Instant Messenger or a user is to HotMail.

Users can sign into ToolButton and customize their settings, add information to their profiles and install the buttons of their choice. But these user modifications cannot be changed by anyone but the user.

A user account is created on the ToolButton servers and the ToolButton program on your desktop interacts with the servers to allow a user to "roam the internet" and sign into ToolButton from any computer with the program installed. A user can only be deleted with a request through the "Contact Us" page of the ToolButton web site.
...

How do I clear my previous searches?

Abstract:
You can clear the history from the search pull-down box in one of three ways:

1. Choose Clear Search History from the search button pull-down menu, or

Note: The above instructions do NOT clear the history of the Internet Explorer browser. ToolButton does not cleary the history of your browser. You must do this through the browser controls. For example, with Internet Explorer version 6.x, see this:

How do I get the feed to update?

Abstract:

RSS feeds can only update as often as the feed Publisher produces a new feed. Most times when a feed does not appear to be updating, it is because the source of the feed is not new or you do not have internet connectivity.

To Force Update an RSS Feed

ToolButton regularly checks the header of an RSS feed checking the "last update" and "ETAG" settings to determine if the feed is new. The frequency of this is determined by the settings in Options > RSS, under Download Manager.

You can force a feed to be downloaded (irrespective of whether or not the RSS headers indicate there is a new feed version) in several different ways:

1. To force download of all the feeds contained within a button, right mouse click on the button (context menu) and choose REFRESH.

2. To force download of all the feeds in your deskbar and new button configuration, choose REFRESH DESKBAR from the ToolButton pull-down menu located on the left of the deskbar (click on the ToolButton name).

3. You can view the download activity from within the Download Manager. To see this, either choose DOWNLOAD MANAGER from the ToolButton pull-down menu, or right click (context menu) on the ToolButton icon in the systray on the bottom right hand side of your Taskbar, and choose SHOW DOWNLOAD MANAGER.

To force the download of an individual feed appearing in the Download Manager, right mouse click (context menu) on the line of the feed and choose REFRESH.

To force download of all the feeds in your deskbar, choose REFRESH ALL from the ACTION menu of the Download Manager).

This has been an error that is reported on an occasional basis and does not seem to have one common cause. One of the following has successfully resolved the problem.

1. Most likely your download stopped before the entire file(s) was retrieved. If you look at the file (TB_setup.exe) in Explorer, it should be approximately 56 KB. If not, download it again. If you cannot locate the file (TB_setup.exe), download it again but choose the "Save" option. You will be prompted for a location to save the file "TB_setup.exe". Select the Windows Desktop from the "Save in" drop down pick list.

This small program (TB_setup.exe) analyzes your computer to determine which ToolButton components need to be installed and which you might have already. Then it begins downloading another file called TB_setup.msi which is approximately 8 megabytes (7,901 KB). It is most likely that it is this larger file that is corrupted.

2. To manually download this file, click on http://www.toolbutton.com/download/TB_setup.msi and you will be prompted for a location to save the file "TB_setup.msi". Once again, we recommend that you select the Windows Desktop from the "Save in" drop down pick list. Minimize all open windows until you are at the Windows Desktop. Locate the TB_setup.msi file and right-mouse click on the file and choose Install to begin the installation. Follow the on-screen instructions.

IMPORTANT: After downloading TB_Setup.msi completely, do not run or click on the TB_Setup.exe file - use the TB_Setup.msi file only!

3. We have heard third-hand, that some download accelerators seem to produce a similar sounding message. If you are using such a utility, try turning it off and try installing again from <A href="ht...

Will ToolButton work with Mozzilla Firefox browzer?

Abstract:
At present, no. You need to download and install the Windows Installer Redistributable. Click the link to the Microsoft website relevant to your operating system:

What should I do.

Abstract:
This is caused by a failure of one of the Deskbar components to register itself. Usually, this has happened because the user installing ToolButton does not have Administrative rights. In the case of upgrades, this can occur because the component is still "locked" in memory.

To correct:

1. First, reboot your computer and make sure the Deskbar is not running and does not appear on the top of your desktop.

2. If that does not resolve the situation, you can manually register the problem component with these steps:

 a. Start > Run, enter "Cmd" and open a Command/DOS box

 b. From within the Command/DOS box, enter "cd "c:\Program Files\ToolButton"

 c. The Command/DOS prompt should change to this folder. Then enter "regsvr32 name_of_the_component in_the_error_message" For example, enter "regsvr32 ietoolbar.dll". You should get a message indicating the component was registered.

 d. Enter "Exit" to quit the Command/DOS box and run ToolButton with Start > Programs > ToolButton > ToolButton Deskbar
...
